A Restaurant Worth the Drive
Red's Tavern is the on-site restaurant at Watson's Lakefront Resort in Cataldo, Idaho. It's a garden-to-table restaurant with an old-country-tavern atmosphere — the kind of place where the steaks are serious, the ingredients are local, and the lakefront deck makes every meal feel like an occasion.
Nearly all ingredients are sourced from farms, ranches, and producers in the Coeur d'Alene region and the broader Inland Northwest. The menu changes with the seasons, but you can always count on quality steaks, roasts, and dishes that showcase what Northern Idaho has to offer.
The Garden-to-Table Difference
"Garden-to-table" gets used loosely in the restaurant industry, but at Red's it means something specific: nearly all ingredients are sourced from local and regional producers. The beef comes from ranches in the Inland Northwest. The vegetables are seasonal and regional. The bread is baked in-house. When you order a steak at Red's, you're eating something that was raised within a few hours of where you're sitting.
This approach means the menu changes with the seasons. Spring might bring wild mushrooms and asparagus. Summer features fresh vegetables and lighter preparations. Fall and winter lean into hearty roasts and root vegetables. The kitchen works with what's available and at its best, which is why regulars come back to see what's new.
The Menu
Red's serves classy American food — think steaks, roasts, and hearty seasonal dishes, not pub grub. The emphasis is on letting great ingredients speak for themselves. Expect hand-cut steaks, seasonal vegetable sides, fresh-baked bread, and desserts made in-house.
The bar stocks local craft beers, Idaho wines, and classic cocktails. It's a full dining experience, whether you're here for a special night out or a casual dinner after a day on the lake.
The Lakefront Deck
The best tables at Red's are on the lakefront deck, overlooking Rose Lake — a 370-acre lake in the Coeur d'Alene River valley. Sunsets over the water are genuinely stunning, and in summer, the deck hosts live music nights — local and regional musicians playing everything from folk to country to blues. It's the kind of evening you plan a trip around.
Walk-In Only — No Reservations
Red's Tavern is walk-in only — no reservations. If you'd like to skip the wait, you can join the online waitlist through Toast Tables before you arrive. We also offer online ordering for pickup if you'd rather take your meal back to your cabin or tent. There is no delivery service.
Not Just for Resort Guests
Red's Tavern is open to everyone, not just Watson's lodging guests. Locals, Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes cyclists, and day-trippers from Coeur d'Alene and the Silver Valley are all welcome. The resort sits right off I-90 in Cataldo, about 30 minutes east of Coeur d'Alene and 20 minutes west of Kellogg. If you're passing through on your way to or from the Silver Valley, it's worth the stop.
Pair Dinner with a Stay
The best way to experience Red's is as part of a stay at Watson's Lakefront Resort. Walk from your cabin, dome, or safari tent to the tavern for dinner, then walk back under the stars. Or stay in The Tavern Loft directly above Red's — dinner is a flight of stairs away. Watson's offers five unique accommodations on Rose Lake — two log cabins, a geodesic dome, a safari tent, and The Tavern Loft — all with direct lake access.
Guests staying at Watson's also have easy access to the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes (a 73.2-mile paved rail-trail that passes by the property), Old Mission State Park in Cataldo (home to the oldest standing building in Idaho), and the outdoor recreation of the Silver Valley and greater Coeur d'Alene area.
