What Makes Glamping on Rose Lake Different

Glamping has become one of the fastest-growing travel trends in the Pacific Northwest, but most glamping sites put you in a field or a clearing miles from anything interesting. At Watson's Lakefront Resort in Cataldo, Idaho, your glamping accommodation sits directly on Rose Lake — a 370-acre lake surrounded by evergreens and Northern Idaho's quiet foothills. Rose Lake is part of the chain lakes along the Coeur d'Alene River, adjacent to the Coeur d'Alene River Wildlife Management Area, where guests regularly spot moose, Great Blue Herons, and other wildlife in the surrounding wetlands.

That means you wake up to water lapping against the shore, not highway noise. You step off your deck and you're at the lake — swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or fishing for Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Channel Catfish. And when evening comes, you walk to Red's Tavern for a garden-to-table dinner without ever getting in a car.

The Geodesic Dome

Our geodesic dome is the kind of stay people remember years later. The transparent panels give you panoramic views of Rose Lake and the surrounding forest from the comfort of a real bed with luxury linens. At night, the stars are right there above you — and with minimal light pollution this far from the city, the stargazing is genuinely remarkable.

The dome sits on a private platform with its own deck, and you'll have access to the property's shared amenities — the lakefront, fire pits, and Red's Tavern. It's glamping at its most photogenic, but it's also genuinely comfortable. This is the accommodation that couples book for anniversaries, proposals, and the kind of getaway you plan around.

The Safari Tent

If the dome is about the views, the safari tent is about the atmosphere. Canvas walls, warm lighting, a queen bed, and the sound of the lake just outside. It's the feeling of sleeping outdoors with none of the discomfort.

The safari tent sits on its own dedicated platform with a private deck overlooking Rose Lake. It's ideal for couples looking for something adventurous without roughing it — especially when dinner at Red's Tavern, with its locally sourced steaks and seasonal dishes, is a short walk away.

What Else Is Nearby

Watson's is trailside on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes, a 73.2-mile paved rail-trail that the Rails to Trails Conservancy has named one of the top trails in the country. The trail runs from Mullan to Plummer through river valleys and wetlands, and it passes directly by the resort — so many guests combine a glamping stay with a day of cycling, walking, or inline skating.

Old Mission State Park in Cataldo is just minutes away. It's home to the Mission of the Sacred Heart, the oldest standing building in Idaho, constructed between 1850 and 1853 by Jesuit missionaries and members of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe. The park's visitor center houses the Sacred Encounters exhibit, which details the history of the Coeur d'Alene people and the Jesuit missionaries. Vehicle entry is $7.

For more adventurous outings, Silver Mountain Resort in Kellogg is about 20 minutes east on I-90, offering skiing in winter and the Silver Rapids indoor waterpark year-round. The Route of the Hiawatha — a 15-mile mountain bike trail with 10 tunnels and 7 sky-high trestles near the Idaho-Montana border — is about 45 minutes east and is considered one of the most spectacular bike trails in the country.
